The Need for Peat Free!
It’s fair to say our impact on the environment and climate has never been under the microscope more than now. Where food trends, eating consciously and growing your own come hand in hand. Traditional tools and methods of gardening seem outdated.
Peat extraction is no longer viable owing to its negative impact on the environment.
This has catapulted the need for a peat-free compost to the fore front of growing media products.
There are now a few brands on the market which offer completely peat free products. At Zoars we offer three alternatives. Bathgate peat free is based on coir and looks most like a traditional multi-purpose compost. Its fine texture makes it suitable for most uses including seed sowing and potting.
We also stock Dalefoot compost which is peat free and organic. It is based on sheep’s wool and fern making it very sustainable. This comes in a specialist potting compost, a vegetable compost, tomato compost and a soil conditioning compost which is great for improving heavy soils.
Finally, we have a new organic peat free compost which is based on well composted horse manure, straw, and green waste. It produces a great deal of heat when composting down which means any bad pathogens are killed off. Resulting in a very clean and useful multi-purpose compost.
This new Organic peat free option is called Equigrow and is 100% natural produce and British made!
