Description
Large, fleshy, slightly ribbed Marmande type. Red Beefsteak tomatoes have a very good flavour and are juicy, with very few seeds but firm flesh. Ideal for slicing into sandwiches or adding to salads or burgers. Fruits are typically 250-350 grams in size but capable of reaching up to 500 grams.
For growing under cover or outdoors.
When to Sow Buffalosteak F1 Tomato Seeds
January to April. Plant out April to June.
Harvest
July to October.
Where to Sow
Sow seeds underglass 0.5cm(1/4 in) deep in pots or trays of good seed sowing compost and lightly cover with a sprinkling of vermiculite or compost. Place containers in a propagator at a temperature of 18–21°C.
What to do Next
Prick out seedlings, once large enough to handle, into 9cm (3 1/2in) pots. Transplant to the greenhouse border soil, or individual large pots, or 3 plants per growbag when 20cm (8in) high. Can also be planted outdoors once all risk of frost has passed. Plants will require side shoots removed and will need to be tied to a support as they grow for the best yields. Water and feed plants regularly with a high potash feed once the first truss has set.
Nutritional Values
High in Vitamin C and lycopene.
Handy Tip
As fruits are very heavy, we suggest you only allow 3 or 4 trusses to develop per plant. Lower fruits can sometimes be irregular shaped but still full of flavour.
