Description

The best open pollinated Chantenay carrot we have seen for 30 years! 11-13cm good triangular shaped roots with a blunt end and nice tap root and no greening on the shoulders. Excellent flavour for use in the kitchen or for exhibition. Shows good bolt resistance.

When to Sow Katrin Carrot Seeds

April to July

Where to Sow

Sow thinly direct into the growing site 2cm (¾") deep in rows 30cm (12") apart. If possible sow carefully so that thinning is not necessary.

What to do next

Carrot fly is attracted by the smell whilst thinning, If you have to thin the seedlings, do so in the evening. Water before thinning and remove all the debris. Do not transplant. Aim for roots 5-7cm (2-3") apart. Young Carrots can always be pulled alternately to 'thin as you eat'.

Maturity

June to November.

Handy Tip

A good variety for an early exhibition use, Try making holes with a bar, filling with compost and sowing seed for the large specimen carrots. Try not to grow on freshly manured grounds as this can produce forking of roots.

Nutritional Values

High in anti-oxidant beta carotene which converts to Vitamin A in the body.
